Maj Gen Gaudence Salim Milanzi (Rtd) was appointed as the High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Republic of South Africa, Republic of Botswana, The Kingdom of Lesotho and the SADC Secretariat in September 2019.

Before his current appointment, High Commissioner Milanzi had served in different capacities in and outside his country including being The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism from 2016-2018, Commandant of the Tanzania National Defence College 2014-2015, Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces (TPDF) from 2011 to 2014 and Director of Research, History and
Evaluation at the Defence HQs from 1994 to 2000. He has also served as Deputy Director and later the Director of the SADC Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre based in Harare, Zimbabwe from 2000 to 2011.

High Commissioner Milanzi is a graduate from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where he obtained BA in International Relations and Public Administration, and Post Graduate Diploma in Law in 1988 and 1989 respectively. He is also a holder of Master’s Degree in Strategic and Security studied from the Bangladesh University of Professionals where he did his degree in 2012.

He is married with five children.
